Applications of Bio Pharma Buffers in Cell Culture
Cell culture systems depend on tightly regulated environments, making buffers indispensable. Cells continuously produce metabolites such as lactic acid, which can lower pH and compromise cell viability. Bio pharma buffers help maintain stable conditions, allowing cells to grow and function effectively.
Bicarbonate, HEPES, and phosphate buffers are among the most widely used. Bicarbonate works well in controlled CO₂ incubators, while HEPES offers strong buffering capacity with minimal toxicity, making it suitable for long-term and high-density cultures.
Stable pH supports protein expression, cell division, and nutrient uptake. By maintaining this stability, buffers indirectly improve overall bioprocess efficiency.
